Though the US dominated the number of requests from agencies in individual countries, Coinbase reported a modest increase in the overall number outside the country.

US-based cryptocurrency exchange Coinbase has released its annual transparency report, revealing that the company experienced a significant surge in requests from law enforcement agencies.
In a report released on Monday, Coinbase it had received 12,716 requests from law enforcement globally from October 2024 to September 2025, marking a 19% increase over the volume of requests reported in 2024.
Of these requests, the exchange said that more than half — 53% — came from outside the United States, with 80% of all of them originating in the US, Germany, UK, France, Spain and Australia.
“As in years past, the overwhelming majority of requests we received both globally and in the US were from law enforcement agencies in connection with criminal enforcement matters,” said the report.
According to the crypto exchange, the requests from 2025 included “subpoenas, court orders, search warrants, and other formal legal processes.”
Coinbase noted that users may be concerned about their financial data privacy, but the company had “an obligation to respond to these requests if they are valid under laws applicable to us.”

Coinbase reported receiving 5,444 requests from US-based law enforcement agencies, consistently the highest among all the reporting countries since 2022. The company has developed closer ties to the US government since the inauguration of US President Donald Trump, with Coinbase CEO Brian Armstrong to the Capitol building and a representative at the White House in October.
Jerome Powell’s term as chair of the US Federal Reserve is scheduled to end in May 2026. Several names have been floated as possible replacements, with prediction platforms such as Polymarket , Trump’s economic adviser and a former member of Coinbase’s advisory council.
