Recently, many types of scams have appeared in Telegram groups. Users need to be vigilant and avoid being scammed. The following types of scams are common in Telegram groups. If you encounter any of the following situations, please be aware of the risks.
1. Be wary of suspicious private messages.
Be wary of private messages recommending projects, asking you to transfer money, or requesting you to register for unknown software to avoid financial losses and information theft. For links from unknown sources or unfamiliar files, especially those with names resembling official announcements or pornographic messages, these files are likely malware; never click or download them.
Anti-fraud strategies:
- Don’t easily trust private messages from strangers; if you feel disturbed, you can choose to block them.
- If you receive a private message from a familiar account, be sure to check if you belong to the same group (to prevent impersonation using the same profile picture and similar username for fraud), and it’s best to call to confirm.
- Do not click on unfamiliar files or links sent to you without prior notice.
Example of a scam involving impersonating a friend:
1) Receive a message from friend A asking for money (and discover that this number is a fake account impersonating someone).
2) Friend A sent another message from another Telegram number: Someone is impersonating my Telegram account, don’t believe it, send me a screenshot (in order to trick Telegram into sending the login verification code).
3) After sending the screenshot to A, the scammer logged into my account and successfully obtained my login verification code using a trick.
4) A: You reported him for me and sent a link (to trick me into entering the two-step verification code when logging in).
2. Impersonating official personnel
Scammers may impersonate official personnel and send you private messages, such as guiding you to receive a password-protected red envelope, offering special promotions, or claiming an official technical glitch to ask you to transfer money or provide your private key information. Do not believe them, and never provide any account information.
Fraud prevention strategies:
- Anyone on Telegram who claims they can help you with your problems and asks for your personal information is a scammer. Do not believe them.
- Official channels will not send text messages, make phone calls, or send private messages to customers without reason. Anyone asking for passwords, text messages, or Google verification codes under any pretext is a scammer. Do not easily trust private messages claiming to be from official personnel.
If you encounter this situation, you can contact official customer service for confirmation through the following methods.
1) You can contact customer service through the official 8V channel (administrators only).
2) Go to the 8V APP homepage, tap the “+” icon in the upper right corner, and then select “Contact Customer Service”.
3) Go to the 8V APP homepage, click on the top left corner 【Personal Center】-【Contact Us】-【24-Hour Online Customer Service】
4) Go to the 8V official website homepage and click the red bubble in the bottom right corner – then click “Contact Customer Service”.
3. Impersonating official communities
Fake official communities are often filled with bots and fake accounts. Scammers may post various fraudulent investment offers in these groups, such as digital asset swaps, transferring funds to wallets to earn returns, or scanning QR codes to receive airdrops. Do not believe these offers, and do not click on any unfamiliar links or tutorials within the group. Protect your personal assets and avoid being scammed.
• If you are unsure whether something is genuine or not, you can verify it through official channels on the 8V platform or contact official customer service for confirmation;
• Do not easily join or trust any exchange, arbitrage, or money-making groups, and be wary of any projects that claim high returns, safety, or stability.
4. Be wary of private transactions.
If you wish to buy or sell USDT, please avoid private transactions to prevent being scammed. If someone contacts you privately offering to exchange USDT for USDT at a low price or buy USDT at a high price, or if you encounter a transaction guaranteed by someone impersonating an official representative, please be vigilant to prevent unnecessary financial losses.
Fraud prevention strategies:
Private transactions are not secure and are often scams. You can buy and sell coins on official trading platforms.
5. Be wary of illegal and irregular information.
Do not trust any illegal images or videos sent on Telegram, or any illegal information such as cheating, hacking, or advertisements for unknown projects or gambling.
Fraud prevention strategies:
If you encounter any of the above situations, do not believe them. You can choose to block the person’s messages or report them to the group administrator via @.
6. If your Telegram account is stolen, be wary of upgraded scam methods such
as using voice changers. For example, if a friend sends you a private message on Telegram asking you to transfer money or requesting important information such as SMS/Google verification, be cautious as scammers may use voice changers. Do not easily believe them.
Anti-fraud strategies:
- In such cases, you must verify the identity by phone or other means of communication.
